Do you wish that you were in better shape? If so, it is time to start developing lifetime health habits designed for your wellness. Although you might think that it is easier to continue along your current trajectory, that needs to change. Start living the life you have always wanted by changing the way you view the world.
In order to transform a current habit, you must repeat new action repeatedly. While the specific number recommended varies from one expert to the next, suffice it to say that you need to be diligent. Make sure that you are accountable for your choices.
Much of human behavior is based on habit. This makes it easier to get through your daily life because you do not get trapped overthinking each choice. The down side is that you can easily find yourself puffing on a cigarette, eating a bowl of ice cream or otherwise, indulging in unhealthy behavior even though you did not consciously choose to do so.
Post signs in places where you are likely to fall into old routines. Enact accountability measures. For instance, if you are attempting to switch from eating unhealthy snacks throughout the day to healthier ones, keep a journal of what you eat.
The simple act of writing will help you to maintain awareness of your behavior. You can also surround yourself with people who are supportive of your choices. An old saying states that you are about equal to the five folks you hang out with the most. So, if you hang out with people who are overweight and avoid the gym, it is likely that you do as well. Though you don’t have to kick your old friends to the side, you can start talking to people who already engage in the healthy behaviors that you are interested in.
If some of your coworkers go for a walk during breaks or lunch, ask to join them. Alternatively, develop your own break plan that encourages good health habits. These small moments at work can be used to great effect if you choose. Use the time for meditation, to record progress or even for deep stretching. Figure out what you need most for good health that you can accomplish during that time. You will find it a better choice than snacking on junk food or participating in the latest water cooler gossip.
Although developing lifetime health habits takes time, you can do it. Choose to be around people with similar goals and interests. Find ways to utilize your time most effectively and do not degrade yourself if you fall into old habits. Nobody is perfect.
It is okay to occasionally indulge in a slice of cake or to skip a workout. However, the more you develop good habits, the less you will want to let that happen. You want to look and feel great for the rest of your life. Start now and you will have the solid foundation necessary to make it a reality.
